The short version

Night Crew has no analytics, no tracking and no account. What it learns about your agents stays on your Mac. The app makes three kinds of automatic network request, listed below, and none of them carries your activity, your prompts or your code.

What the app keeps on your Mac

Night Crew keeps only what tells it an agent is working: event names and times, session IDs, project folder names and scheduled-run times. It never keeps your prompts, your code or chat text.

How it hears from your agents:

  • Claude Code, with no setup. Night Crew reads Claude Code’s small session status files and the time your chat transcript last changed. It never opens the transcript itself, or the key files stored next to the status files.

  • Agents you connect with a hook. The agent hands Night Crew’s hook a short message about each event. The hook picks out the event name, session ID, project folder, the number of background tasks still running and any scheduled-run times, and ignores the rest, including your prompts and tool input and output. It reads notification text only to tell “waiting for your permission” from “idle”. When Claude Code stops at a usage limit, the hook reads the error message only to find when the limit resets, and keeps just that time.

Your activity history is kept for 90 days (you can choose 7 to 365), and the sleep journal for 14 days. Clear History in Settings deletes both. Everything stays on your Mac; none of it is sent anywhere.

If you buy a licence, the key is stored in your Mac’s Keychain.

What leaves your Mac

  1. An update check, daily. The app downloads the public list of Night Crew versions from our update server (hosted on GitHub Pages today) and, when there’s a newer version, the update itself. You can turn automatic checks off in Settings › About.
  2. A small signed status file, daily, from the same server. It can only pause licence checks, in case a licensing bug ever locks out people who paid. It is fetched during the trial too, and carries nothing about you.
  3. A licence check, about once a week, only once you’ve entered a licence key. When you activate a key, the app sends Polar the key and your Mac’s name, so you can tell your Macs apart when you manage the licence. After that, about weekly, it sends the key and an activation ID. If a check fails, it tries again an hour later.

Like any web request, the first two show your IP address to the host (GitHub), and the third shows it to Polar. No other identifier, usage data or crash data is sent. Night Crew has no analytics.

Problem reports, only when you send one. Report a Problem builds the report on your Mac and shows you all of it first. It replaces your home folder path and anything that looks like a key or token, and swaps project names for “project-1”, “project-2” unless you choose to include them. You send it from your own email app.

This website

nightcrewapp.com has no accounts and sets no cookies.

  • Hosting. The site runs on Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare handles your IP address to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks. If the small piece of code behind our download and buy links fails, Cloudflare keeps a log of that error for a few days. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
  • Page analytics. We may use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views. Cloudflare says it uses no cookies or local storage, doesn’t fingerprint visitors by IP address or browser, and doesn’t collect or use visitors’ personal data.
  • Download counter. When you download the app, we count it. Each count records the app version and build, the country the request came from (as Cloudflare reports it) and where your visit came from: the tag in the link you followed, such as ?ref=hn, or else the name of the website that sent you here, such as news.ycombinator.com. That source stays in the page address as you move around the site; nothing is stored in your browser. It records no IP address, cookie or other identifier. Bots and link checkers aren’t counted. Counts are kept for three months.
  • Search tools. We use Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools to see how the site shows up in search results. They add nothing to our pages.
  • Your theme choice. If you pick light or dark, your browser remembers it in its own storage. It is never sent to us.

Purchases

When you buy, Polar (our merchant of record) collects your name, email, payment and billing details to process the payment and tax. We receive your name, email and order details from Polar to provide support. The same visit source as above (hn, say) goes to Polar with your checkout, so we can tell which posts lead to sales. See Polar’s privacy policy.

Your choices

Email support@nightcrewapp.com to ask what we hold about you or to have it deleted, except what we must keep for tax records.
